Maraschino Cherries

What is it with adding sugar to everything? Let's make our own maraschino cherries that are not soaked in sugar! This came from a paragraph of a post on making your own cocktail ingredients.

"Letting fresh cherries sit overnight in salt water, and then soaking them in a syrup of lemon juice and almond extract, creates a richer, more complex, salty-sweet flavor that improves yet still retains the familiar essence of the maraschino cherries we've come to rely on."
